I must perform my vows to You, O God; I will render thank offerings to You. For You have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of life. Psalms 56:12-13
Nik Wallenda comes from a tightrope-walking family -- the premiere tightrope-walking family of modern times: "The Flying Wallendas."
Recently, ABC had a program that featured Wallenda walking across Niagara Falls.
The program was called, "Megastunts: Highwire Over Niagara Falls." To say the program was a spectacular success is an understatement. Because of Wallenda's daring-do, ABC won the ratings race over its competition.
No, that's not right. ABC squashed the competition.
Wallenda's brave (or foolhardy) stunt was the single, most-watched, non-sports summer event since way back in the year 2006.
Now, from a Christian point-of-view, here's what's interesting about Wallenda's walk across the falls: to connect the at-home television audience with him, ABC placed a small microphone on the tightrope walker. Everything he said was heard by the world.
That's great! Wallenda, who is a religious man, made frequent references to the Lord. Like Tim Tebow, Wallenda frequently said, "Praise You, Father God! Praise You, Jesus." It was a remarkable witness made by an unusual man.
Amazingly, or not so amazingly, ABC's "live" blog that was covering Wallenda's triumph never mentioned any of those Christian remarks.
ABC ignored those faith-based statements completely, treated them as if they had never been said.
And so we have one more example of censorship against a Christian, one more case where a witness to the Christ was surgically removed by someone at a nationwide network, one more time when a man who might be a Christian hero was separated from a witness deliberately made.
This is why this devotion wanted you to know the truth.
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, I give thanks for men and women who are not just athletes but who are Christian athletes. May their witness to the Savior and the salvation that was won for us on Calvary's cross be delivered to those who need to hear. In Jesus' Name I ask it. Amen.
In Christ I remain His servant and yours,
