Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
Normally, when you go to work for a company, it asks you to sign an agreement that says you won't steal from it or reveal its secrets.
That's not the agreement at China's Foxconn International Holdings Limited.
At Foxconn, a company which employs some 300,000 people, it's asking workers to sign a document that says they won't commit suicide. Do I hear you ask, "Strange, why would they do such a strange thing?"
That's easy, the pledge exists because, already this year, there have been nine suicides at the company which makes products for Apple, Dell, and Nokia.
Many different explanations have been offered to explain what is happening at Foxconn. Some say the suicides have been motivated by assembly lines which move too fast; others say the company's employees are treated like numbers, not people. The truth is, nobody is sure, but everybody wants to stop the plague of self-murders.
Now you can be sure that many ideas and solutions will be proposed to stop people from ending their own lives.
Sadly, there is one idea, the idea taken from Proverbs 3:5-6, which probably won't be taken very seriously, if mentioned at all.
It does make a difference when people have a relationship with their Savior. When people trust the Lord, when they acknowledge His wisdom and His guidance in every circumstance, when they let the Triune God direct their path -- He can make a difference.
When people know Jesus as their Savior, they are given a different and a better life. No longer are they alone and no longer do they have to face each day on its own. They have a Friend who is always with them.
They have a Friend who not only cares, but they have a Redeemer who saves.
THE PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, there comes a time for many people when they feel there is no hope, there is no tomorrow, and there is no reason to go on living. I pray You will touch such hearts and let them realize that when You are in control of their lives You will make a difference. Jesus can, and does, change things for the better. He gives us a permanent peace the world cannot give. Grant this peace to me and to all the people at Foxconn. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
In Christ I remain His servant and yours,
