In this world there are many pains and sorrows.
While we would be hard-pressed to rank those hurts, I am willing to go out on the limb and say there is no pain more profound than that of a mother who has lost a young child. It is a sharp loss whose pain the years may blunt, but never cover.
That being said, I find it especially sad to hear of two women in California who are claiming they need money for a baby’s funeral. That’s right, Chasity Doll and Tiffany Lyon are wanted by the law for soliciting money from hundreds of people — money which they say will be used to help with the burial of a deceased child.
The way they worked was this: one of the women held up a sign with a picture of a baby. On that sign they had printed the words: “Funeral Donations.” The other woman would then claim to be the mother who had run out of money for her child’s funeral, a funeral which would never take place because the child had never been born.
What a sad, sorry, sinful world we live in.
As Christians, you and I know that when Jesus died on the cross, He was carrying the sins of the entire world. What we sometimes fail to realize is how terrible those sins were.
That day He saw how Doll and Lyon would try to use the deepest of human emotions to steal from others. That must have been a heavy sin for the Savior to shoulder.
I’m sure there were many other sins — sins which were far worse — and there were a lot of them, including yours and mine. Whenever I think of all that I have done wrong, the people I have wounded, the right things I have left undone, it pains me.
Of course, my pain is nothing compared to that of the Christ. He was innocent but He paid for all the sins Ken Klaus has ever committed. He was guiltless but He died to take away your sins as well.
Just for a moment think about all those transgressions.
Think about them and then, please join me in prayer:
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, You died to set me free from the pain and punishment of sin. You offered Yourself to remove my great sins and small sins, the sins which weigh heavily upon my conscience and those I can’t remember. Even more You have done that for everyone. My Savior, may we always be appreciative of Your great and impossible-to-explain love. In Your Name. Amen.
