Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy. 1 Corinthians 4:2
Here’s a question for you:
What do these companies have in common: Coca-Cola, Campbell’s, Disney, Ford Motor, Cingular Wireless, Altria Group, DreamWorks, Darden Restaurants and Sears Holdings Corp?
What do these companies have in common?
Give up?
All of them have won the Parent’s Television Council Advertiser’s Seal of Approval. Simply stated, these are companies which put their advertising dollars behind solid entertainment rather than that which promotes “gratuitous sexual content, graphic violence, or profanity.”
The PTC gives its award because it thinks people should know about and be given the opportunity to throw their support behind companies that are trying to do the right thing rather than that which is shocking, shameful, or scandalous.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Think about it. All too often we spend our time criticizing that which we’ve found to be undesirable and unacceptable, but we forget about promoting and thanking those things which are positive.
That’s certainly the way it is for the church. When a priest or a pastor gets into some scandalous situation, it makes national news.
But no newscaster makes note — not even in passing — of the vast majority of spiritual leaders who are solid.
My friends, I’ve wandered the country, I’ve found hundreds upon hundreds of congregations where the Lord’s work is being done. In these congregations pastors are faithful shepherds of their flocks, and their people love these men of God.
But these pastors and these people never make it into the press; they never receive applause or any accolades.
This is why this devotion is a special thank you. To all the men who are servants of the Savior, who try to reflect the Savior’s love and sacrifice, who faithfully tell the blood-bought story of salvation to their people, GOD BLESS YOU!
And may your people bless you, too.
THE PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, for those faithful shepherds who have dedicated their lives to telling the Savior’s story, I give thanks. May they be blessed in their work and may souls be touched with the forgiveness and salvation which the Savior has won. This I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
