So that the readers of our Daily Devotion may see the power of the Savior on a global scale, we have asked the volunteers of our International Ministry Centers to write our Friday devotions. We pray that the Spirit may touch your day through their words.

Speaker of The Lutheran Hour
When we get sick, the first thought we have is this: What remedy should I take to feel better?
Sadly, in a country like ours where people have limited resources, there is a custom of self-medicating without visiting a doctor for his advice.
Sometimes, self-diagnosing a condition can lead us to underestimating our problem and refusing to believe our condition is not serious.
The same thing can also happen in regard to our mental and spiritual health.
Because we are all sinners we all have a spiritual sickness. Because we are human there is a lack of a suitable self-help “remedies.” Instead of a positive, powerful solution to our situation, we prefer to follow the advice of those who are no more able to help than we are.
Without recognizing the real cause of our problems, we suffer the most common terminal sickness that exists for humans: self-centered egotism.
In contrast to what we can’t do for ourselves, God has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice makes it possible for Him to take care of — and cure — this plague of sin which kills us in time and in eternity.
The treatment consists of faith that brings constant doses of ongoing forgiveness. This remedy is the only effective remedy that can soothe the pain and restore us to spiritual health.
Amazingly, this blood-bought medication is freely available to all. Although it cost God’s Son most dearly, there is no charge for us. It is free and available to all any day or night.
That is the message Christians have always shared. It is the message we share through our programs in Panama. Please ask that the Holy Spirit touch hearts so they may be brought to believe on the Savior and use the “medicine” He has won for us.
THE PRAYER: My friend Jesus, I always thought with good health and money I would be untroubled. I dreamed of enjoying my life, but now I realize that something is missing. I ask You to forgive me, restore me, and keep me. Further, I pray that I may share You with others who are spiritually dying. This I pray in Your Name. Amen.
Biography of Author: This devotion was written by Marcos Kempff, who was connected with the Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) center in Panama. Operating out of Panama City, this office has been effective in using printed resources and mass media to share the Gospel and hope that is in Jesus Christ. Project JOEL, designed to share the Savior with Panama’s youth and Equipping the Saints‘ workshops have had significant impact.
