Psalm 143:3 “The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in darkness like those long dead.”
For me, a pastor, today (the Wednesday of Holy Week) is a day to fine-tune plans for the worship services yet to come. I might even leave the office a little early and relax a bit at home.
What must this day have been like for Jesus? Luke indicates that Jesus spent Monday through Wednesday (and perhaps Thursday) of Holy Week at the temple teaching. Some fine-tuning, I suppose, of His earthly ministry. Then in the evenings He would go to the Mount of Olives to relax, pray, and sleep.
There are times when we need to do the same-today is an excellent day to spend with God in His word and in prayer. Some may ask, “What will happen if I do?” Good question. I do not know the answer to that question, but we learn in Scripture that God will bless you as you meditate on His word and spend time with Him in prayer. Tomorrow, Maundy Thursday, is a significant day. Following that comes Good Friday. Today is a good day for fine-tuning.
Application: Take as much time as possible to read God’s Word today. Spend some time deep in prayer.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to relax. Help me to take advantage of the opportunities to come into Your presence in worship during these next days. In the name of Your Son, our Savior. Amen.
