Psalm 6:1 “O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your anger or discipline me in Your wrath.”

In our devotion for St. Patrick’s Day these same words appeared, although in a different psalm. There is a reason God’s words are repeated … to catch our attention. God uses this repetition to highlight the importance of His teaching.

One of the important ways God teaches us is through discipline. For the sake of Jesus, God does not rebuke us in anger nor discipline us in His wrath. He pours out His wrath on Jesus as He suffered on the cross for our sins.

Yet, God sometimes allows bad things to happen in the lives of His people. You can cry out with the psalmist as you live through the experience. As God speaks to your heart through His Word, you will hear Him say that He loves you as His own dear child and will use even the bad things to strengthen your faith and teach you His will for your life.

Application: When you experience pain, devastation, and struggles in your life, remember that God loves you and can use the bad time to strengthen your faith and teach you His will.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You would keep me safe. In the bad times, help me to see Your will for my life. Keep me in Your love for the sake of Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen.
