Psalm 130:1-2 “Out of the depths I cry to You, O LORD; O LORD, hear my voice. Let Your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.”
For an 11-year-old boy, digging a hole is great fun. Once I was in a three-foot hole with my feet sticking out and my head at the bottom. The sounds of the world were muffled. When I called out to my friends, I could hear myself just fine, but they had trouble hearing me.
There are times in our lives when our sin brings us to the bottom of a deep hole, often referred to “hitting rock bottom.” We cry out but no one seems to hear us.
But because of Jesus Christ we have the assurance that God hears us. As we cry, “Lord have mercy,” God hears us-no matter how deep our hole. How do we know? Because Christ died to take our sins away! Our cry for mercy was answered when the Lord of mercy and grace sent Jesus to live, die and rise again-for us!
Application: Plant some seeds and put them in a special place. Write out the Scripture verse from above and place it on the pot.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, sometimes I feel like I’m at the bottom of deep, dark hole. Depression, even despair, overwhelms me. Hear my cry for mercy! Hear my cry for Jesus’ sake. In His name I pray. Amen.
