For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18 (KJV)

This year a 30-second advertisement on the Super Bowl cost $3 million.

That’s a lot of money. If a company is going to spend that much money to buy airtime, they want to make sure their commercial has some serious impact.

To get that bang, commercials showed us Joan Rivers in hot pants and commercials promised to show us even more if we went to their websites. We were served blow-’em-up ads for future movies and saw how fire-breathing dragons have their flames snuffed out by a soft drink.

Those who watched the Super Bowl saw all kinds of ads: good ads, embarrassing ads and ads that didn’t make much sense.

But there was one ad you didn’t see.

It was the ad produced by Fixed Point Foundation and rejected by Fox Sports.

The ad showed fans watching a football game where one of the players wore eye black, which had John 3:16 written into it. Some of the fans thought John 3:16 sounded familiar and others wanted to know what it meant. The ad begins to wind down with one of the fellows grabbing his cell-phone and saying, “I’ll look it up.” The final cut gives people a website to check out: lookup316.com.

The ad was rejected because of its religious theme.

Apparently Greg Jennings, Green Bay’s wide receiver didn’t agree with Fox Sports. At the end of the game, with all the crowds and confetti going crazy, he took time out to say, “To God be the glory.”

The son of a Christian preacher, Jennings hadn’t forgotten that which is really important. He set an example and made a proclamation of his faith in the Christ who gave His life to save ours.

Amazingly, what Jennings said didn’t cost $3 million.

Your witness won’t cost that much either. All our proclamation needs is for us to remember the Savior and a willing heart that is ready to share what He has done for us.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, the world still doesn’t want to hear what the Savior has done for us. Help us, Your redeemed children, to share the Savior whenever we can, with whomever we can. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
