There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2

Ten-year-old Tessa Grosso has a problem.

Grosso has allergies. There’s no doubt that some of you reading this Daily Devotion have allergies too. But if you have allergies, Grosso has allergies.

Among the things to which Grosso has little or no tolerance are milk, wheat, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts and shellfish. So strong was her reaction to these foods that they could kill her. At the age of two some spilled milk put her into anaphylactic shock. Obviously, she had a difficult time leading a normal life.

Knowing she was different, Grosso was subject to panic attacks. Even worse, because her classmates knew she was different, some of them made fun of her.

Today things have changed for 10-year-old Grosso. Her parents found Dr. Kari Nadeau who had developed a treatment called oral immunotherapy. Over a four month period of time his technique managed to control the worst of Grosso’s allergies. Even more, the experimental treatment managed to do this all at once.

By taking a strong drug that suppresses allergic reactions and eating a small amount of the food that could kill her, Grosso became the first person who has been desensitized to multiple allergens at the same time.

The family would say, “It’s a miracle.”

I agree. Of course, it is nowhere near as great a miracle as that which was performed for us by Jesus.

During His lifetime, Jesus fulfilled all the laws of God, which we had broken. Further, He managed to resist every temptation Satan threw at Him. Best of all, He carried our sins, crucified them on His cross, and three days after He died, Jesus rose from the grave.

Now, because of what Jesus has done, sin, the devil and death — the three enemies which had proven so successfully fatal to humanity — have lost their power to destroy.

Because of Jesus, we who once had to live out our lives in fear are now able to live out our days forgiven and free. As Jesus said, He had come so we might “have life and have it to the full” (see John 10:10).

Speaking for all of us, Tessa Grosso commented, “The biggest change is that I don’t have to be scared anymore, and I don’t have as much anxiety.”

Thank God that is so for her and for us.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, today I give thanks You have sent Your Son to save me. Through the miracle brought about by His work, I am free from sin’s condemnation and heaven is mine. May my thoughts, words and actions show my appreciation. In Jesus’ Name I ask it. Amen.
