Nurturing Your Faith: Forgiveness - Session 1: Practicing Forgiveness
By: Rev. Dr. Chad Lakies
This first study on forgiveness begins with man's sin dilemma, its dire consequences, and God's merciful solution to our problem. As we have been forgiven through Jesus, so are we to forgive others.
Forgiveness is part of God's divine nature as found in both the Old and New Testaments. This is good news for us all as mankind's original sin in the Garden of Eden earned us God's wrath and separation from our Creator. While God is just and will punish sin (see Exodus 34:6-7), He also shows mercy and forgiveness (see Nehemiah 9:17).
God has shown us His forgiveness through the atoning life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. God's Son is our Gift. He came into this world on our behalf, and God placed the world's sin on His back. Because of Christ, God did the unthinkable: He took our debt of sin and nailed it to the cross, giving it to Jesus-"the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29b)
