As a veteran, your service to our country puts you in an elite group of individuals. Through Bible studies, devotions, booklets, and more, LHM has a variety of meaningful resources that are relevant and accessible to veterans. These resources were curated specifically for veterans as free, digital, and easy-to-use materials to connect you to Jesus.
Called to Serve: Utilizing Our Gifts as Veterans is a new five-session Bible study from LHM hosted by Rev. Dr. Michael Zeigler, Speaker of The Lutheran Hour, and Rev. Dr. S.T. Williams, both military veterans. The devotion is led by Chaplain Steven Hokana, Associate Director of LCMS Ministry to the Armed Forces. This study is designed to guide service members to consider what gifts God has given them, and how they can use those gifts in life outside of the military. Each session is guided by our hosts and includes interviews from veterans from all walks of life and all military branches, sharing how they have used their gifts both in the military and in their family, church, and community. This Bible study is intended to be hosted by churches, who will invite veterans in their congregation and community to study together using the video and accompanying discussion guide. The study culminates with the planning of a project the group can do to serve together.
Based on research done in partnership by Barna Group and Lutheran Hour Ministries, Called to Serve helps veterans recognize they were created by God as a gift with gifts (talents, skills, and abilities). And those gifts are meant to be grown and shared with others in their family, church, workplace, and community.
