The 127th Rose Parade presented by Honda, themed "Find Your Adventure," will take place on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016 in Pasadena, California, and feature spirited marching bands from throughout the nation, high-stepping equestrian units and majestic floral floats. Lutheran Hour Ministries will once again have a float entry in the parade, this year under the theme of "Jesus is the Light of the World." The LHM float will display a fishing boat with both biblical and modern era disciples of Jesus Christ sitting beneath a lighthouse crowned with the cross of Christ.
Thanks to the International Lutheran Laymen's League's Southern California District, the LHM float is a 66-year tradition in the longstanding New Year's event, carrying on a mission to provide a Gospel witness to viewers everywhere, from the parade route along Pasadena's Colorado Boulevard to televisions all over the world. The float serves as the only Christian witness in the parade. The Tournament of Roses Parade is watched live on television by approximately 40 million Americans and by millions more people in 150 countries.
Please invite your friends, relatives and neighbors to watch for the Lutheran Hour Ministries float during television coverage. While the Tournament of Roses Parade is on most network channels, the LHM float is not guaranteed coverage due to commercials and/or other TV commitments. For the best viewing of the parade, the Home and Garden channel shows the parade in its entirety on cable TV. Check your local listings for time and channel. The Lutheran Hour Ministries float is scheduled to appear near the end of the parade as the 93rd unit out of 95.
In addition to the Lutheran Hour Ministries float, the 5,000 volunteers of the Petal Pushers are also decorating floats for several other organizations. Honda, the City of Los Angeles, Western Asset, Farmers Insurance and Shriners Children's Hospital are among the other floats that the Petal Pushers decorated last year.
