Service Project: Disaster Response Readiness

We will work on clearing out our Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) Disaster response trailer. We will take aout all item, inventory and clean all items, take out the shelving, put new flooring in the trailer, reconfigure shelfing in trailer and do additional maintenance of Disaster Trailer. We will also cut down 2-5 trees on the church campus that have been hit by lightening and are of a danger if left alone. We will use these trees to train new LERT members on how best to use the chainsaws during a disaster. This will be a multi congregation event including members from KIng of Kings Lutheran Gardner KS; 1st Lutheran Paola KS, Christ Lutheran Overland Park KS; Trinity Family of Christ

Service Project: Searving Breakfast to individuals with food insecurities
Church: King of Kings Lutheran Church LCMS
We will be traveling from our home congregation to St.Luke's Lutheran CHurch in Kansas City KS. Two volunteers will be there at 6am to open up and start cooking while another 13 volunteers will travel an hour later to help. We will cook sausages, egg bake, pancakes, and serve hot coffee, orange juice and water to an anticipated over 90 individuals who are experiencing food insecurities. Each person will be encouraged to go through the line as many times as they would like= past experiences would indicate that we will serve approximately 240 meals. There will also be an opportunity, for those who desire, to use the shower facilities as well as have their clothes washed and dried.

We will learn how best to respond during natural and man made disasters-while displaying God's Mercy. On the second night we will learn about "Flood Buckets" and put together numerous buckets to be provided to those who h ave endured the recent floods in Nebraska and other local states.

Our Men's group will travel to Kansas City Kansas where we will prepare and serve a hot breakfast to individuals who experience food insecurities. We will cook and serve sausages, eggs and pancakes. We will also offer fresh oranges along with hot coffee and orange juice. Individuals served will also have an opportunity to take a shower in a warm and secure area.

Our group will be assisting families in need in our the neighborhoods around our church with projects they have in and around their homes. We're hoping to reach out and connect with people directly in our neighborhood who don't currently attend St. Michael, as well as anyone else who is in need. We have a specific elderly couple in mind who need some help, and have reached out to others in the area too!

We will be packing food for a Chattanooga Public School students to take home for the weekend (65); packing homeless hygiene kits (300) for Cross of Christ Chattanooga to share in their ministry to the homeless; beginning renovations at Belvoir Christian Academy (75 % unchurched) working side-by-side with school families; assembling large print booklets (500) to be shared with the visually impaired throughout the country with Lutheran Braille Workers; creating outreach tools that conference participants can share in their own ministry as well as pro

Our church's Men in Mission will be constructing a portable ramp for use at the York County Food Bank. This ramp will aid people with carts to more easily access the food bank when they can receive about 50 pounds of food. (This program is run every Tuesday and Friday). Our team had previously donated push carts to help people take their boxes through the line where they receive the food.
