Project Connect Booklets Big-Time Draw in Texas
As the weather begins to warm, all sorts of local and regional fairs, farm and home shows, arts events, music festivals, and more are gearing up for spring and summer productions. Often these large-scale get-togethers feature booths offering items like homemade food, handmade crafts and, for the really lucky, Project Connect topical booklets.
One such venue is the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo in Mercedes, Texas, which takes place this coming weekend and runs for ten days. According to local Ed Weber, it's a fantastic venue to share Project Connect booklets with attendees. He ought to know. This year he's ordered nearly 2,000 booklets, with several titles in Spanish as well as English. He's also a big fan of Lutheran Hour Ministries' kids' booklets.
Like last year, this year Lutheran churches in the circuit will run a booth in the exhibit hall. In 2017, more than 3,000 people visited the booth (picture on cover) and came away with great giveaways and plenty of Project Connect booklets.
"We interact with families by having them spin a Bible trivia wheel. When they get the right answer, they win a bag a popcorn or Christian novelty. They keep spinning until they win a prize. The kids love it and want to keep answering questions, even after they win something. Then we also let them choose from the booklets and tracts. If they have the time, we read through the booklets with them," Weber said.
