LHM Ministry Response
Ministry in Guatemala:
The Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) ministry center in Guatemala City uses a wide range of community-based programs to spread the Gospel.
The Project JOEL program reaches out to thousands of children and teens throughout the country. It is based on solid Christian teachings, and is used in public elementary and high schools throughout the country. In addition, LHM staff and volunteers also reach out to children through visits to hospitals and orphanages, and offer seven adult and two children's Bible Correspondence Courses (BCC).
Equipping the Saints (ETS) training is given to lay Lutheran people involved in evangelism. It equips them with evangelistic materials and other resources to help the ministry reach the lost.
Other ministry center activities include teaching God's Word through a young theater group, called "Kerigma," and organizing broadcasts of LHM television specials on secular channels during Easter and Christmas.
LHM—Guatemala often conducts outreach events and holistic projects in cooperation with local Lutheran Churches, and U.S. volunteer groups. The staff and volunteers also provide spiritual counseling by phone, e-mail, and with the assistance of local Lutheran lay people and pastors.
