"God's Warming Hand"
April 2, 2011
I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. ... Psalm 139:14a
Not being the handiest person, I'm always amazed by the miracles of technology.
By that I'm not just talking about the big stuff like nuclear reactors and space telescopes. Also included would be little things like non-stick frying pans, instant cake mixes and telephones that do everything other than burp the baby. (Although there may be an "app" for that.)
Recently, I was amazed by a Japanese magazine that had a picture of a butterfly on one of its pages.
The butterfly was a dull gray until you placed your hand on it. When the picture was warmed by a hand, the special inks on the page reacted: the dull gray transformed into a flashing rainbow of color.
I say this is a "miracle of technology," but it isn't.
There is a perfectly logical explanation and I'm sure many people understand it. They understand, but I don't.
Just as I don't understand how God can love me as a sinner.
No, I don't understand, but just like the butterfly picture, I can see the results.
Because of what the Savior has done for me, my life is no longer a dull gray ... it no longer will end in eternal punishment.
Because of Jesus, today -- and every day -- is special. It is filled with the beautiful colors of possibilities and calmed by the peace the Lord alone can give.
It is my hope that God's hand warms your day the same way, and that, because of Jesus, your life is just as beautiful.
From a devotion originally written for "By the Way"
THE PRAYER: Thank You, Heavenly Father, for brightening our days with Your Son and the joyful possibilities Jesus bestows. May I see the changes You have made and then, having seen, may I appreciate them. In His Name I ask it. Amen.
