Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ. Romans 10:17
Amid the stress and strain of daily life--amid the hustle and bustle of this hurried, hectic work-a-day world--we need these quiet moments of meditation. We need these quiet times for communing with Jesus. It is good for us to dwell on God's Word and let the Holy Spirit lead us.
Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit works faith in our heart through the power of the Word. We need power so we can grow in faith and find forgiveness and peace in life.
Are you troubled by pet sins? Too often we hang onto our bad habits, hang-ups, and wounded pride. We struggle with our inclinations to gossip and be greedy. Often our nerves are frayed, and our tempers are short.
Does your conscience haunt you? Are you homesick? Does the tension at work get to you? Do you shudder at the thought of death? Then listen to Jesus and His Word. Jesus, our ever-living, ever-loving Savior, is our refuge and strength. Jesus, speaking to us through the Word, is our guide through life. We trust Him for forgiveness and for our eternal salvation. We hear Him say, "Blessed rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey it" (Luke 11:28). Through that Word comes faith.
PRAYER: Our heavenly Father, we thank You for these moments of meditation. We thank You for the good news of Your Gospel. Amen.
