God’s Word Is Powerful

Tuesday, July 7, 2026

[The Lord says:] “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My Word be that goes out from My mouth; it shall not return to Me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:10-11)

I’m living proof of what God says in this passage. I grew up with almost no exposure to the Christian faith—but my mother gave me a Bible, and never said anything more about it. Well, I was a bookworm, even back then. I ran out of stuff to read one day, and there was this big thick book, just tempting me. I locked myself in the bathroom so no one would find out I was actually reading it. I started at Genesis, and, well, before I reached the Psalms, I was a believer.

There are other people with stories like these. God’s Word is powerful, whether it comes through reading or preaching or through the untrained but heartfelt sharing of one friend talking to another. Because God the Holy Spirit is working through His words, His message, to create faith in the people who hear it. And He can do amazing things—setting people free from the darkness in which they live and bringing them into the wonderful light of Jesus our Savior.

This is what’s at the root of all the times we urge people to read the Bible—to listen to it—to hear it preached—to sing songs based on it. God’s Word gives us life, because God’s Word is where we meet Jesus. It’s where we see Jesus coming down from heaven into our world as a tiny human baby, one of us. It’s where we see Him teaching and healing and feeding, taking care of people day in and day out while He tells them the Good News. It’s where we see Him walk steadily towards His death, knowing exactly what is going to happen to Him—all the suffering, all the pain—but knowing also that His death will set us free from the evil that enslaves us. And it’s where we see Jesus, risen from the dead, full of joy as He shares the gift of eternal life with everyone who believes in Him—and that includes you and me.

WE PRAY: Lord Holy Spirit, help me to grow through Your Word. Help me trust in Jesus with all my heart. Amen.
