(God said) “I, I am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” Isaiah 43:25

Years ago, a mother had finished helping her adopted teenage daughter fix her bright, red hair for the senior prom. Proudly, mother and daughter went out to dad for his approval.

The father took one look and said, “Honey, you’re beautiful. But I don’t know where you get that red hair. I’m blonde, and your mother’s hair is very dark. Nobody in either of our families has that color hair.”

The daughter listened and then, with a laugh, said, “Daddy, that doesn’t count. Don’t you remember? I’m adopted?”

To her comment the red-faced father confessed: “You know, honey, sometimes I forget there was a time when you weren’t my daughter. I forget because it seems that our house is where you were always supposed to be.”

The girl’s father had forgotten.

* He forgot not because he had some illness that was robbing him of his memories.

* He forgot not because he was getting older and some things weren’t remembered clearly.

* He forgot because he had chosen to forget. His love for his daughter, his desire to have her as part of the family had obscured the months of waiting and the mountain of paperwork they had endured to make this girl their own.

It isn’t much different for our Lord. In numerous places Scripture says the Lord is all-knowing. Omniscience is one of His godly attributes. Still, in the book of Isaiah the Lord tells us He will not remember our sins.

That is not because God can’t remember.

It is because His Son has paid the ransom price for our souls. Now, when the Father looks at those who believe on Jesus, He sees them as being sinless, spotless and clean from all sin. Because of His love for Jesus and for us, He has forgiven us and adopted us into the family of faith.

In other words, because we have been redeemed, the Lord remembers to forget our sin and all that we once were.

THE PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, I am truly grateful that because of the Savior You have chosen to put my sin away from me as far as the East is from the West. Grant me the grace to show my appreciation for this grace and reflect the love I have received to others. In the Savior’s Name. Amen.
