Daily Devotions

So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all His work that He had done in creation. Genesis 2:3

Many thanks to Lutheran Hour Ministries’ own David Lanius for calling this devotional topic to our attention.

Not so long ago the Daily Devotions shared how Christmas is pretty much ignored or redirected by our country’s major TV networks.

Now I’m able to share how they treat the Savior’s resurrection.

According to the Media Research Center’s Culture and Media Institute, last year two-thirds of the Easter stories carried by ABC, CBS and NBC were negative, and 91 percent of those stories spoke mainly about the pedophilia dishonor caused by some priests in the Catholic Church.

In contrast to the sad way the Savior is treated, Mother Nature seems to do just fine.

Looking at the same networks and their coverage of Earth Day, 100 percent of the stories were positive in their tone.

How pitiful and pathetic — smart people who do their best to promote the creation, and do their worst in demoting the Creator and His Son, the Savior of the world.

If it had not been for Jesus’ intervention, for the sacrifice He made for this sinful universe, all of creation would keep on groaning under the weight of sin. But Jesus did intervene and because of His work everything is changed.

Paul said it better than I could ever hope to do when he wrote to the Christians in Rome: “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39).

And, if they had been around back then, St. Paul might have put the networks on his list of things that can’t separate us from God’s love.

This means, dear friends, if the networks won’t share the Savior’s victory over sin, the devil and death, we need to redouble our work in bringing Christ to the Nations.

THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, there are many who would try to minimize Your sacrifice by emphasizing our sin. May their efforts be defeated and the story of salvation be seen as Your great gift of grace. This I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
