Can’t Get In

YOU’RE A FAILURE AND YOU’RE OUT.

That’s what a letter said which was sent out to 500 Cal State L.A. students. The letter didn’t use those words, but it did tell the 500 students they had been academically disqualified from returning for the winter quarter.

So, how did such a mistake happen? It was a simple computer error. Actually, it was a label code error. Somebody miscoded the 500 and from that moment on the computer marked them as being unacceptable.

The students got the letter right around Christmas. Mistake or not, that had to be a pretty nasty Christmas present.

YOU’RE A FAILURE AND YOU’RE OUT.

Scripture is clear: God never wants any human being to get such a message from Him.

Now it’s true that because of sin we are all failures. Our transgressions have made us all fall far short of the perfection God demands. There’s no room for debate: because of our track record we all ought to be banned from heaven.

In fact, we are, on our own, banned from heaven.

This is why Jesus entered this world. So we might be re-admitted into heaven, so we might be forgiven our sins and brought into the family of faith, Jesus came into this world to take our place.

He enrolled and passed all the tests we had failed.

Now, because of what He has done, we are forgiven, we are accepted, and we are saved. In short:

JESUS IS A SUCCESS AND WE ARE SAVED.

THE PRAYER: Dear Savior, today I wish to express my appreciation for Your complete commitment to saving me. Your sacrifice has given me forgiveness and eternal life. For all You have done, my eternal thanks. Amen.
