So everyone who acknowledges Me before men, I also will acknowledge before My Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny before My Father who is in heaven. Matthew 10:32-33

It would appear that Chevrolet has dodged a bullet.

No, the bullet didn’t come from overseas competitors, and it wasn’t the result of a declining economy.

This bullet was of the company’s own manufacture. For those of you who haven’t heard, a memo went out from Chevrolet’s headquarters to its employees. The memo said everyone should say, “Chevrolet,” rather than “Chevy.”

The memo was motivated by a desire to have brand consistency.

It didn’t make any difference that Chevy is one of the world’s best-known nicknames. Somebody wanted the product to be Chevrolet.

The memo was in force for only a few hours before a public outcry let the powers that be know they had made a mistake — a mistake so big the company did a quick about-face.

Sadly, I see many Christians doing the same thing. In order to be accepted by everybody and bring offense to nobody — and so they might appeal to a greater audience — I see Christian churches and congregations minimizing their connection with the beliefs of the faith.

Lest they offend and keep someone away from their doors, they take down their crosses. They shelve their creeds, and they hold classes on every subject other than specifically religious subjects.

How tragic! It’s tragic for the churches. It’s tragic for those who think they have been given salvation by following the teachings of men and not God.

Jesus’ words about confessing Him before men were not hollow and empty. The Savior was serious when He encouraged us to confess Him before men.

This is just another way of saying that if you have a pastor who preaches according to all of God’s Word, and if you are part of a church whose teachings are based on Holy Writ, you need to give thanks to God.

And if you belong to a church that doesn’t have those things, then you need to find one that does. After all, it’s nothing to be ashamed of if you are, my friend, a Christian.

THE PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, for those men who preach and those people who teach all of Your truths, my deepest thanks. May their witness and work be blessed. But I pray also for the multitudes who are being slowly and subtly led astray. May they be awakened to confess their Savior who gave His life as a ransom for theirs. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
