The salvation story of Jesus Christ reaches around the world. So that the readers of our Daily Devotion may see the power of the Savior on a global scale, we have asked the volunteers of our International Ministry Centers to write our Friday devotions. We pray that the Spirit may touch your day through their words.

Speaker of The Lutheran Hour
A group of young students were practicing long jumps. The professor told them they all made the same mistake. He said when they came up to the line, they focused their eyes on the place where they were going to land. Because of that, they had not been able to achieve a greater length. The teacher advised them to lift their heads and focus on something in the distance. This would give their bodies the necessary boost to reach a greater length in their jumps.
Sometimes, we, too, focus on things that do not represent our goals, and those things cause problems that prevent us from reaching goals in our lives. Life is complicated, but remember you are very dear to God, your Creator, who loves you. Through Him, you have His Son, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross, paying the penalty for your sins.
When you feel discouraged and think triumph is far away, remember His sacrifice for you. He has already achieved complete victory; the crown of eternal life is yours. Look up to Him. See, knock, ask — and He will open the door for you.
THE PRAYER: Dear heavenly Father, direct our attention toward Your Son, our Savior. It is with our eyes and faith fixed on Him that we truly learn to go the distance. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
