Lutheran Hour Ministries Singapore Private Limited (LHMS) serves as the Asia regional office of Lutheran Hour Ministries, a global Christian outreach organization committed to Bringing Christ to the Nations®–and the Nations to the Church.

Sharing Christ’s Love Through Cricket
For decades, LHM has shared Christ’s love with the world by identifying and equipping local laypeople to develop ministry programs contextual to the culture in which they serve. Since staff members understand local needs, LHM can create customized programming and resources that resonate with their audience.
In recognition of cricket’s growing popularity among youth in India, staff from LHM’s satellite ministry in Mumbai organized a cricket tournament to capture the interest of local young people. The event provided a platform for church members to showcase their passion for the sport while promoting fellowship and unity through healthy competition, all while strengthening their partnership and collaboration with LHM in sharing the Gospel message to their communities.
The day started with breakfast followed by a prayer and short sermon delivered by a local pastor who serves as an LHM volunteer. Throughout the event, LHM staff and volunteers interacted with the participants, shared information about their ministry, and distributed booklets and other Christ-centered resources.
A total of 80 players on eight teams participated and approximately 100 spectators attended. In addition, the matches were streamed live on the ministry’s YouTube channel to an audience of approximately 700 viewers to extend the tournament’s impact beyond the venue.
“The tournament was a resounding success in not only fostering unity and sportsmanship, but strengthening spiritual bonds among youth,” says Bryan Tay, LHM’s president of Asia Ministries who attended the event to present the trophy to the winning team.
Connecting with Asia Communities Through Holistic Ministry
During His ministry on earth, Jesus not only taught and preached but also healed the sick and fed the hungry. LHM’s ministry centers follow His example, often incorporating “holistic” approaches to sharing the Gospel by attending to people’s physical and emotional needs as well as to their spiritual needs.
In some communities where people may be struggling against the effects of poverty, LHM ministry centers assist families by providing vocational training, educational materials, nutritional supplements, hygiene supplies, or medical clinics. Often the recipients of these holistic efforts desire to learn more about the God Who motivates these Christians to reach out in love. This opens doors for LHM staff and volunteers to share their Christ-centered resources and invite people to participate in their Bible Correspondence Courses and other programs.
LHM staff in Southeast Asia recently conducted a holistic haircut event in conjunction with a live Christian music performance held in partnership with a local congregation. The 120 attendees were given LHM booklets while they were waiting to get their haircut. More importantly, key people from the church took the opportunity to share the Gospel with those who wanted to know more about Jesus and His love.
An elderly woman heard the Good News for the first time at the event, and returned to the church later in the month to ask the senior pastor to pray for her. She was touched by the Holy Spirit, confessed her sins, and expressed her desire to follow Jesus. “I truly see Jesus’ love through your good deeds,” she said “That’s why I am here with my grandchildren. Please pray for me and help us to know more about the God you and your church members shared at the haircut event.” We give thanks to the Lord for encouraging staff by what He is doing through their work.
LHM staff in Thailand partnered with a local congregation to host a holistic eyeglass clinic at the church. The 400 participants received a free professional eye examination from local opticians and a free pair of new eyeglasses with their preferred style of frame from those that fit their prescription. To check the accuracy of their prescriptions, attendees read a chart of Bible verses that were printed in fonts of varied sizes. Along with their eyeglasses, each participant received several Christian booklets.
Celebrating Children’s Day in Thailand
Thai Children’s Day is celebrated annually on the second Saturday of January and is one of the most widely celebrated days for families with activities held by cultural institutions and nonprofit organizations aimed at fostering joy and learning.
In the days surrounding this celebration, the LHM–Thailand staff organized a Children’s Day activity for around 800 students at two different schools in Kamphaeng Phet Province. In addition, they coordinated with a local pastor to hold events for nearly 1,500 students at three schools in his community.
The purpose of this activity was to encourage children and youth to recognize their responsibilities while learning various skills that will contribute to a positive future for them in line with the National Children’s Day slogan, “Love Thailand, Care for the World.” In addition to creating happiness and enjoyment, the LHM team shared a skit adapted from the parable of “The Lost Son (The Prodigal Son).” This helped the children learn about life values, parental love, and forgiveness within the family. The team also focused on pointing them to God’s love and forgiveness.
The children at each school showed strong interest and actively participated in the activities. Every student received a gift set that included ministry resources like the LHM booklet, Do You Know Who Jesus Is?, as an encouragement for the children to learn more about the love of Christ.

Puppet Show Encourages Teacher to Reaffirm His Faith
Chun is 45 years old and married with three children. He is a teacher and learned about LHM—Cambodia through their puppet performance held at his school. He started talking to the ministry center staff and shared that when he was studying to become a teacher, a friend had shared the Gospel message with him. Chun attended church for a few years, but when he began teaching at a remote school, he lost contact with everyone at church. Since marrying his wife who practices a non-Christian religion, Chun feels like his faith has disappeared. He was thankful for the puppet performance at his school that encouraged him to reaffirm his faith.
Printed Literature Enhances Lives in Southeast Asia
Working in conjunction with government-recognized congregations and organizations, LHM staff and volunteers in Southeast Asia share the hope of the Gospel through Bible Correspondence Courses, social media, musical performances, puppet shows, holistic outreach like eyeglass clinics and nutritional programs, and soccer tournaments to demonstrate Christian values to youth.
One of the ministry’s longest-running and most effective activities is the distribution of printed Christian literature at churches and LHM-hosted events. On average, more than 1,000 people of all ages are reached each month through these printed materials. Not only does this project impact the lives of recipients, but also the volunteers distributing the materials.
Huy is a 32-year-old volunteer who mainly works with children in the highlands. “Not only do I experience the joy of giving away books, but I have learned new lessons that have helped my spiritual life grow day by day,” he says. “This book distribution project also shows that we care for the young generation at a time when society is often immersed in technology.”
Huy enjoys seeing children sharing with each other the stories they have read and wanting to learn more through the lessons. “Children really love our books since they are well designed and contain meaningful stories,” he says. “More importantly, they firmly sow the seed of God’s Word in their hearts. We hope that one day these children will be touched by the Holy Spirit and their lives will be transformed.”

Larnoy is 18 years old and previously attended a youth program hosted by LHM—Laos. During the youth activities, she heard the Gospel message for the first time. After hearing about Jesus, she talked with the staff and volunteers from the program and expressed her interest to learn more. They answered her questions and encouraged her to attend worship services at a local church. After attending a few services, she was eager to read the Bible to dig deeper into God’s Word and joined a Bible study group at the church. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Larnoy became a Christian. She continues to regularly attend church on Sundays and was recently baptized.
