Welcome to Urban Ministries!
Here you will find resources designed to help you minister the Good News of the Gospel to non-believers of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
What does the term "urban" mean? The term "urban" was first used by marketers in the 1970s to describe African Americans and Latinos between the ages of 18 and 34 who live in the inner city and who tend to have developed current styles in attitude, fashion, and music.
Today, the urban audience is multicultural; 90% of U. S.
minorities live in large metropolitan areas. Go to a major
city and you'll find an array of ethnic restaurants, grocery
stores, television and movies featuring minorities, newspapers
and magazines. Marketers work to tap into the buying power
of the urban audience; we strive to develop ministry resources
that speak the same language and see the world through the
same "cultural lenses."
