| Spring Volunteer Project Helps Students Share Christ’s Love in Kenya |

 Violence and destruction have become an everyday reality in Kenya since the country’s disputed December elections. Many churches and homes were burned down and families forced to flee for their lives. The result has been hundreds of thousands of people left only with what few belongings they were able to take with them.
For children, this means a drastic change in their lives as families struggle to find food and other essential supplies. Some of these children are returning to school with nothing.
Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) invites you to help ease their pain through the Global Care Packages program. Through Global Care Packages, your students and church groups can pack and send drawstring bags filled with school supplies, toys, and messages of hope. Help us share the love of Jesus with the children in Kenya by filling.
Here’s How It Works
1. LHM provides the drawstring bags for your group to fill.
2. Using the downloadable letter template, each participant writes a short, personal letter for the child receiving the package.
3. After your group packs the bags, send the bags and $5 for each bag packed to Orphan Grain Train in Norfolk, Nebraska, or make arrangements to drop them off at an approved collection site. The $5 per bag goes toward shipping the bags to Kenya.
4. When the bags arrive in Kenya, LHM—Kenya staff will add Gospel materials in the local language and distribute the bags to the children.
Global Care Packages is a great service project for schools and church groups. “As we have taken part in this project over the years, our students have benefited — not just by helping boys and girls in other parts of the world,” says Ruth Marschel of Immanuel Lutheran School in Washington, Missouri. “Global Care Packages provides an opportunity for the building of relationships among our own students as older students work with younger students in the completion of this project.”

Bags arriving by April 1 are guaranteed shipment to Kenya. Bags arriving after April 1 will be sent to Kenya (if enough bags are received for a second shipment) or to hurting children in other countries around the world.
