Parenting Workshop Appeals to Member and Non-Member Families
December 11, 2007
Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) has unveiled a program to help churches and schools reach out to families in their communities with the love of Christ.

This six-week DVD series, entitled Parenting Families: From ME to WE, is based on a parenting concept originated by Dr. David Ludwig, a leading Christian psychologist, counselor, Lutheran pastor, and author.

Each weekly video segment features three significant parts:

  • A presentation of the main concept by Dr. Ludwig

  • Insights from Monique Nunes, a principal, early-childhood educator, and mother, who takes the concept and applies it to real-life situations

  • Pastor Ben Gonzales, who shares personal ways to underscore the unconditional truth and love of Jesus Christ so that it resonates with people no matter where they are in their relationship with Jesus

“This is an opportunity for churches and schools to connect with families in their local community,” says the Rev. Steve Siegel, Director of the U.S. Ministries division for LHM. “Member and non-member families alike will benefit from practical and engaging workshops.”

Churches and schools that host the program receive a hosting kit containing:

  • A DVD of the six sessions

  • A Leader's Guide

  • Promotional brochures

  • A package of invitation postcards

  • Booklet samples from LHM’s Project Connect booklet display ministry

  • A printed hosting guide, including preparation and volunteer notes for promotion through follow-up.

  • Participant Materials

Dave, a workshop participant in Omaha, says, “It was valuable for me to know that other parents are experiencing or had experienced the same things with their family as I have with mine. The workshop made me think in a way that I may never have thought without the class and it offered advice from the other parents in the class.”

The program is available to churches or schools for only $149 (discounts are available). For more information, visit www.lhm.org/equipping. To order a hosting kit, call 1-800-944-3450, ext. 4305, or send an e-mail to localmedia@lhm.org.

Advent Devotions Available Online

You can also print Revolutionary Christmas, a devotion booklet written specifically for seekers or non-believers. The devotions go through the start of Epiphany, which is Jan. 6, 2008.

So far, individuals and churches have printed more than 170,000 copies of the 2007 devotions. More than 1,600 churches printed multiple copies for church use and more than 1,000 people printed them for individual use. Besides churches of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, at least eight other denominations have used LHM’s devotions.
