LHM-Ghana is bringing back the "In Touch" radio ministry. The popular radio program had previously been pulled from the air due to financial cutbacks, but a series of generous donations, led by the local LHM Advocacy Board, will put it back on the air.
"In Touch" will be produced in Ghana and aired on one of the country's largest radio stations to bring the Word of God to the people living there. Early last year, LHM-Ghana was faced with a tough decision to cut some programming. Though this program was well received, there was just not enough money to keep the broadcasts going. In a staff meeting last February, it became official: the "In Touch" radio broadcast would be suspended indefinitely because of lack of funds.
Nearly a year later, the staff was overjoyed to hear that the ministry's Advocacy Board members decided to bring back the radio program. Board Chairman Isaac Owusu-Hemeng spearheaded the effort, with a personal pledge of more than one million cedis ($100 U.S.) to reinstall the program. This donation was equivalent to more than a month's salary for an average worker in Ghana.
Owusu-Hemeng says, "My wife, even though she is Catholic, is addicted to the program, and would not hesitate to tune in each time it aired. She takes a lot of inspiration from it. She also contributes financially to the program."
Currently, LHM-Ghana is using an advertising blitz to let people know about the revival of the "In Touch" program. Even before the first airing of the show, the ministry center had received calls and letters from as far north as Tamale, 500 kilometers away. "One can see how far the radio program travels," says Owusu-Hemeng.
