A Search for the Truth Leads Man to LHM Ministry Center in Lebanon
Muhammad started reading the Qur'an when he was young. Later, in hopes of becoming a better, more obedient Muslim, he joined the Islamic Brotherhood organization.
When he heard a Lutheran Hour Ministries radio program, it was the first time he had encountered a Christian broadcast—or anything about the Christian religion. His curiosity led him to ask LHM's ministry center in Beirut, Lebanon, for a copy of the Bible, which he began reading as soon as he received it.
Muhammad wanted to learn as much as he could about Christianity. Over the next two years, Muhammad wrote many letters to the LHM ministry center, which is known as Middle Eastern Lutheran Ministries (MELM).
"Sometimes he tried to convince us to become Muslims," commented one staff member. The MELM staff continued to pray for Muhammad and share their faith with him. One day Muhammad confessed, "I don't know where the truth is!" He had two religions battling in his head, he said: what he thought he knew from years of Islamic teaching versus the powerful and comforting message of the Gospel.
A month later Muhammad wrote to tell the MELM staff that the Lord had led him to the truth of the Bible and of Jesus Christ. He declared he would always follow Jesus, no matter the cost.
Today Muhammad is studying LHM's Life of Paul Bible Correspondence Course and is thirsting for more. "With the Holy Spirit living in me," he says, "I now experience true peace. In the midst of troubles, God's Word has given me the promise of faith in the Lord and the patience to endure hardship. I am grateful to God for witnessing to me through MELM and teaching me how to live a victorious life, rich in worship and thanksgiving."
