'The Lutheran Hour' in Spanish: 'Para el Camino' Gains Traction Here and Abroad
 Since Lutheran Hour Ministries has accelerated its promotion of Para El Camino—the Spanish-language broadcast of The Lutheran Hour—increasing numbers of people are receiving the Gospel via radio and the Internet.
Nine stations now carry Para El Camino in the United States with the recent addition of a Wednesday night airing at 7 p.m. on KXZY/100.7 FM in Waco, Texas. Other stations are located in Indiana, Florida, Iowa, Colorado, New Mexico, and Oregon. South of the border, two radio stations airing Para El Camino in Perú were recently added, and the message is also available online to the people of Ecuador via www.conpoder.com.
More than 50 percent of Web visitors to www.paraelcamino.com come from Mexico, Central and South America, and Spain, according to Beatriz Hoppe, who manages Hispanic Ministries for LHM in its U.S. Ministries Division. The split between new and returning visitors to the Web site is roughly 50/50, and Pastor Klaus' Daily Devotions in Spanish—Devociones Diarias at www.paraelcamino.com/alimentodiario—receives frequent visits as well, she added.
There may be some listeners for whom Para El Camino resonates because they remember Dr. Andrés Meléndez, who served as Speaker of The Lutheran Hour in Spanish for more than 30 years between 1941 and 1972. Today, the "voice" of Para El Camino is Rev. Héctor Hoppe, director of Editorial Concordia, the Hispanic Division of Concordia Publishing House.
