Ready or Not, Brazilian Volunteer Plays a Role in a 'Miracle'
Núbia Strelow Rocha is an LHM volunteer in Brazil who always seeks opportunities to share God's Word. She especially likes to do it through the booklets distributed by LHM. Recently, she was leaving work and thanked the security guard who opened the gate for her. She was surprised when the guard said, unexpectedly, "I have to thank you for everything you've been doing for me." The story he told Núbia warmed her heart so powerfully that she asked him to write it out so she could share it with us.
"These last couple of years, my life had been in a downward spiral," the guard's account begins.
"I started hanging out with some new friends who were bad people. This led me to start drinking heavily, and then I began to neglect my family. I became arrogant, easily angered, and depressed. It hurt my home life and my work life, and even affected my sleep—developing into insomnia. Each aspect of my negative behavior influenced other behaviors.
"I had seen Núbia passing out Christian booklets around the office, and at the pit of my depression, I came across one called Asking for a Miracle. Out of desperation, I took it and read it again and again. I needed to get out of this hole that I was digging in my life. I wanted to love my family again. I needed forgiveness, and I wanted to know how to forgive myself. I prayed, desperately, for my life to be like it once was. "With time, Jesus gave me the chance to ask for forgiveness from my family. I repented, not ashamed to say 'I was wrong,' and His love took over my life. I thank my family for never giving up on me. I don't drink anymore; I just feel like I'm a new man trying to recover everything I've lost. Each new day is a reason to tell my wife and my kids that I love them."
Núbia says this experience has renewed her energy to keep sharing the Gospel with the people she meets every day. Please give thanks for Núbia and LHM—Brazil, and keep them in your prayers.
