LHM Merges 'Reaching Out,' 'Global Work & Witness' Programs into 'Global Impact'
The volunteer staff members in LHM's international ministry centers share the salvation story of Jesus with hundreds of thousands of people every year through holistic, culturally appropriate forms of outreach.
In recent years Lutheran Hour Ministries has made it possible for congregations to support our ministry centers—and thus ongoing global outreach—through a congregational partnership program called Reaching Out. LHM has also provided opportunities for individuals and groups to work hands-on alongside our ministry center staff members through a short-term mission service program called Global Work & Witness.
Now, to make the most efficient use of our ministry centers' capacities and expand ministry opportunities for congregations and groups, LHM has joined Reaching Out and Global Work & Witness into a single program, called Global Impact.
As with Reaching Out, a congregation may designate a specific overseas ministry center to support. Now, though, Global Impact offers congregations and groups more options in the level and frequency at which they provide support. One congregation might elect to make a one-time donation while another could choose to provide funding on a periodic basis. Opportunities to provide one-time or ongoing support for a designated ministry center will also be open to individuals and families.
Also as with Reaching Out, Global Impact provides opportunities for partners who provide ongoing funding to send a representative to their designated ministry center for a firsthand look at the ministry they support. Now, by incorporating features of Global Work & Witness, Global Impact also offers an additional level of involvement—hands-on volunteer service opportunities in building, vacation Bible school, medical clinics, and more for groups desiring to get a frontline sense of the day-to-day challenges faced by their partner ministry center staff.
