Face-to-face meeting changes life for former Imam
Release No: 05-35
By Gerald Sonnenberg

Jun. 6, 05— ACCRA, Ghana: Each day, Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) staffs and volunteers in every ministry center worldwide reach out to hearts in need of God’s Word. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, international LHM directors, like John Donkoh in Ghana, are able to reach hundreds and thousands of people each month through a variety of media.

Radio and television are used where possible and practicable, but, much of the time, face-to-face interaction is the most effective way to put a face on Christianity for those who don’t understand.

An LHM staff member working on a team for a program called “House to House” had a recent opportunity to see the Holy Spirit at work.

Team evangelists in Bawku, in the upper eastern region of Ghana, met Mr. Moro S. Francis during one of their visits.

Moro was raised as a Muslim in the West African country. He often led the Imam, or Islamic community leaders, to the mosque every Friday to pray. Moro said that he was in charge
of all prayer activities on Fridays. Though raised as a Muslim, his heart was troubled by the rules he was required to obey.

When Moro met the LHM evangelism team in his home, he heard about Jesus and that Jesus was the Savior of the world. Though he always seemed to know that in his heart, in his mind and through his Islamic teachings, Jesus was “just a prophet.”

“Thank you, Jesus,” he exclaimed. “Without Him (Jesus), no one would ever enter the kingdom of God.”

After meeting the team, Moro’s father told him, “This is where we are to join for salvation.”

After joining the church, Muslim leaders in his community summoned him before the Imams to know why he had joined the Christian Church.

Moro stood his ground. “I have seen the light of salvation and, on that matter, I don’t have anything to say,” he told them.

According to Moro, he was called before many elders on several occasions to rescind his decision of becoming a Christian. He simply told them, “No.”

Moro is calling all men, women, and children to stand firm in their faith because Jesus Christ is on their side.

Thank God for support of LHM friends and the power of the Holy Spirit, which enable the LHM ministry centers to reach hearts in need with the Good News of Jesus Christ!
