Fear Causes Lebanese Man to Become a Secret Christian
Release No: 09-41
By Noel Hwande

Aug. 13— BEIRUT, Lebanon: Several months ago, Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) staff in Lebanon shared the story of "Bilal", a young man with a Shiite Muslim background who came to the ministry center in search of answers. After three suicide attempts he was seeking hope in Christ - and received it in abundance. Now, because of his new-found faith, LHM-Lebanon recently reported that Bilal's life was in danger.

After becoming a Christian, Bilal was actively involved in church activities and studied the Bible Correspondence Courses (BCC) that he received from LHM. However, he had to do all this in secret because he knew his family would reject his new life.

Unfortunately, one day his father came across a Bible and a BCC lesson in Bilal's room. Just to confirm his suspicions, he followed his son to church before confronting him.

According to LHM-Lebanon director, Fadi Khairallah, he received a distressed call from Bilal asking for prayers. He said that his father was angry and abusive, and threatened to kill him because of Bilal's Christian faith.

In fear, Bilal, has promised his family that he will no longer attend church.

"We stay in contact with Bilal to encourage him, and we speak to him about Christ and his love," Khairallah commented. "He is very happy to know that we are thinking of him and praying for him."

Please pray for Bilal - that his situation will get better and he will be able to worship Christ openly and without persecution.

"He knows that his brothers and sisters in Christ, his new Christian family, will never forsake him," says Khairallah.

Your continued prayers and support for LHM allow outreach programs to have an impact all around the world. We ask that you prayerfully consider a gift to our International Ministries today.
