An Unassuming Miracle in Brazil
Release No: 09-30
By Tyler Yeargain

May 1— SÃO PAULO, Brazil: Núbia Strelow Rocha is a volunteer from Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) in Brazil who always seeks opportunities to share God's Word. She especially likes to do it through the booklets distributed by LHM. Recently, she was leaving work and thanked the security guard who opened the gate for her. She was surprised when the guard responded, "I have to thank you for everything you've been doing for me." What followed was a tale so heartwarming that she asked him to put his story in writing so she could share it.

"These last couple years, my life had been in a downward spiral," the guard began.

"I started hanging out with some new friends who were bad people. This led me to start drinking heavily, and then I began to neglect my family. I became quickly angered, arrogant, and depressed. It hurt my home life, my work life, and even affected my sleep - eventually developing into insomnia. Each aspect of my negative behavior enhanced other behaviors, and others still."

"I had seen Núbia passing out Christian booklets around the office, and at the pit of my depression, I came across one called Asking for a Miracle. Out of desperation, I took it and read it again and again. I needed to get out of this hole that I was digging in my life. I wanted to love my family again. I needed forgiveness, and I wanted to know how to forgive myself. I prayed, desperately, for my life to be like it once was."

The guard continued, "With time, Jesus gave me the chance to ask for forgiveness from my family. I repented, not ashamed to say 'I was wrong', and His love took over my life. I thank my family for never giving up on me. I don't drink anymore, I just feel like I'm a new man trying to recover everything I've lost. Each new day is a reason to tell my wife and my kids that I love them."

Núbia asked the staff of LHM-Brazil to continue praying for the security guard as he lives a new life in Christ. This experience has given Núbia a renewed energy to keep on sharing the Gospel with the people she meets everyday.

Your continued prayers and support for LHM allow outreach programs to have an impact all around the world. We ask that you prayerfully consider a gift to our International Ministries today.
