Son's defiance leads to reunion with church Release No: 09-26 By Gerald Sonnenberg
Mar. 31 SOUTH KOREA: When Dae Gyu was two-years-old, his parents regularly attended a local Lutheran congregation. For reasons unknown to him, his parents stopped going to church. Thirteen years later, Dae Gyu decided it was time to go back.
It is an hour by subway to get to the small Jungang Lutheran Church, but the teen was determined to see what the church was like. Dae Gyu got involved in a program called "Student Union," made friends and began reading materials produced by Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM)-Korea.
His parents were unhappy with the 15-year-old who insisted on attending church every Sunday.
After two years of seeing their son go to church, and after being led to Christ by the power of God's Word, the parents decided to watch him perform in a musical event at the church. Dae Gyu had invited them hoping they might reconsider their decision. They felt uncomfortable, but watched as their now 17-year-old high school student rejoiced in the Lord. With time, Dae Gyu's parent began showing up more and more to watch their son participate. Finally, they came back to the church.
According to LHM staff members who got to know the teen, Dae Gyu is a "sincere and good son." "Their (the parents') step toward church was very heavy, but they came to church because their loving son asked," said one staff member, "Then, they could feel peace and a deep impression in their minds. They remembered God's Love." Recently, Dae Gyu and his parents began coming to church together.
Your continued prayers and support for LHM allow outreach programs to have an impact all around the world. We ask that you prayerfully consider a gift to our International Ministries today.
