Still a Christian at Heart Release No: 09-25 By Tyler Yeargain
Mar. 27 ACCRA, Ghana: In Ghana, if a woman is marries a Muslim, she is often forced convert to Islam. "Anna" had been a Christian until switching to the faith of her betrothed. Yet, as she witnessed the ministry programs of Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM)-Ghana, Anna was moved to do something extraordinary.
Years before her marriage, Anna pledged to support Gospel ministries, and even after her marriage, held true to her pledge. When she and her husband moved next door to a local Christian church, Anna was touched by what she saw. She donated 50 Ghanaian cedi toward activities of the ministry - the equivalent of five months worth of an average laborer's wages.
The situation Anna finds herself in is not uncommon, especially in the northern regions of Ghana where women married to Muslims have no choice but to join their husbands' religion.
"It takes the power of God for one in such a predicament to acknowledge other religions especially Christians, let alone donating such considerable amount equal to the monthly salary of numerous Ghanaian workers, commented LHM-Ghana's director, John Donkoh.
After receiving the donation, the staff of LHM-Ghana went to visit Anna and thank her. She declined to be photographed for safety reasons, but said in an interview, "Even though I happen to be of a different religion, I believe I owe my allegiance to Christianity, and would like to support activities that will bring the lost to the saving knowledge of the Gospel."
Anna also requested that we remember her in our prayers; that she may, one day, be brought back into the family of Christ.
Your continued prayers and support for LHM allow outreach programs to have an impact all around the world. We ask that you prayerfully consider a gift to our International Ministries today.
