Ai Ji: Blooming and Bearing Fruit for Over a Decade Release No: 09-16 By Noel Hwande
Feb. 24 SHANGHAI, China: In April 1998, the Ai Ji (Love of Christ) Printing Press, built in Shanghai with a gift from Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM), was dedicated to the service of Christ in China. More than a decade later, this first and only Church owned-and-operated printing house is thriving and bearing fruit in the name of the Lord.
In the years between 1966 and 1976, churches in China lived in darkness. This was the period in Chinese history known as the Cultural Revolution, when churches were outlawed and religious persecution intensified. When churches were finally allowed to open up again, one of the biggest needs was printed Gospel materials to supply to a rapidly growing number of Christians.
The printing press was built to provide churches fast, local access to printed materials, in their own language.
"Before the Ai Ji Printing Press came, we had to start looking for an outside printing company and give them the article before Christmas, if we wished to have it printed in time for Easter," said Rev. Matthew Deng, former Vice-Chairman for the National China Christian Council. That process, he added, now just takes a few days.
Today, Ai Ji prints and publishes Bible studies, booklets and even videos and DVDs. It has the capacity to produce more than five million copies per year. It works through a network of 70 distribution centers and church bookstores to distribute these materials all across China.
Your continued prayers and support for LHM allow outreach programs to have an impact all around the world. We ask that you prayerfully consider a gift to our International Ministries today.
