LHM Advocate to Lead National Church Release No: 09-14 By Noel Hwande

Feb. 17 UYO, Nigeria: The Lutheran Church of Nigeria installed as its seventh and newest President, Reverend Christian Ekong. This is of particular significance to Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) because Rev. Ekong is a long-time advocate for LHM in Nigeria.
Over the years, Rev. Ekong has served on the LHM-Nigeria Governing Council, provided pastoral counsel for the ministry center, and facilitated numerous Equipping the Saints evangelism workshops. He was also helped coordinate the construction of a new office complex for LHM-Nigeria.
The consecration ceremony took place on January 9th and was attended by thousands of people including members of the Lutheran, and the Nigerian Christian community as a whole. As President of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria, Rev. Ekong will shepherd 400 Lutheran congregations comprising over 100,000 members.
"We are elated that having worked so closely with Rev. Ekong over the years he has been chosen to be at the helm of the Church. We look forward to reinforced cooperation with the Church to further our Ministry objectives," said Christian Ejelonu, who directs LHM-Nigeria.
Lutheran Hour Ministries first opened its doors in Nigeria more than 50 years ago, when a group of missionaries began recording and producing radio programs in a living room at Obot Idim. Since then, radio ministry has been one of the tools that LHM-Nigeria uses to reach out to the population through weekly programs.
Your continued prayers and support for LHM allow outreach programs to have an impact all around the world. We ask that you prayerfully consider a gift to our International Ministries today.
