Young man battles drug abuse with God's help Release No: 09-02 By Gerald Sonnenberg
Jan. 6 LEON, Nicaragua: Drugs and alcohol can destroy lives without mercy. For a 14-year-old boy in Nicaragua, the decision to fight back came during a visit to his school by a Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) evangelism team. The team arrived armed with the booklet "Living in the Family without Drugs" to the Emmanuel Mongalo High School. The young boy found the booklet helpful and thanked God and LHM for the valuable information in the booklet. After the event, he talked to the LHM-Nicaragua team about his family situation and his father's use of drugs.
He told the team that he knew where his father kept the drugs and that, sometimes, he took them as well. Although he realized taking drugs was not good for him it was only after he listened to the LHM team's presentation that he truly understood how "we are so important to God even though we are not perfect." The young man understood that Jesus loves him. He also realized that he could communicate with Him through prayer.
This young man said, "I consider that we all change with the help of God." He also requested prayer for his father who is still taking drugs. The LHM team left the teen the promise of help for him and his family, as well as the spiritual attention of a pastor.
Your continued prayers and support for LHM allow outreach programs to have an impact all around the world. We ask that you prayerfully consider a gift to our International Ministries today.
