Outreach & Training Workshops Planned at LHM Convention

St. Louis, Mo., June 4, 2003 —The July 17-20 Lutheran Hour Ministries (LHM) 2003 Outreach Expo and Convention in Peoria, Ill., will feature Christian outreach, training and empowerment workshops on Friday afternoon, July 18.

Six Christian experts, including Lutheran Hour historian and author Dr. Paul Maier, Christian mental health educator Ruth Koch, Concordia Seminary-St. Louis professor R. Reed Lessing and Wheat Ridge Ministries President Dr. Richard Bimler, will discuss a variety of current and issues-based topics. These include sharing Christ with Muslims, Jews and Judaism within the biblical narrative, Christian conflict management and the tools and techniques of effective evangelism.

In addition, two of the nation's most-requested Christian family and parenting experts - psychologist Dr. Kevin Leman and nutritionist David L. Meinz - will top the list of quality presenters at the LHM's first-ever "Celebrate the Healthy Christian Family Conference" to be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, July 19, in the Peoria Civic Center. Leman will give two of his most popular seminars, "Making Your Child Mind without Losing Yours" and "Adolescence Isn't Terminal." Meinz will present his newest seminar, "Today's Healthy Woman," which focuses on women's nutrition and health issues.

The LHM 2003 Outreach Expo and Convention is expected to draw Christians from across Central Illinois and from more than 30 nations. It will feature many new activities, including concerts, workshops, celebration and service events. At 7:30 p.m., July 18, Christian comedian Ken Davis will perform live on stage for the first time with the rock band, Echelon, and Michael Lewis, "The Jesus Painter." Davis is renowned in Christian circles for his cross-generational humor and inspirational Gospel message.

Other motivational speakers and presenters scheduled for the four-day event include urban ministries expert and author the Rev. John Nunes, Concordia University-St. Paul Associate Dean Dr. Jeffrey Burkhart and Phyllis Wallace, host of the syndicated "Woman to Woman®" radio program.

Registration for the LHM 2003 LHM Outreach Expo and Convention is $50 for adults. To register or learn more about scheduled presenters or convention activities, log on to www.lhm.org/convention.
