ABOUT

Lutheran Hour Ministries’ biennial Outreach Conference energetically empowers Christians, in particular LCMS members and workers, to engage in a lifestyle of living out, and speaking out, the Gospel of Jesus. The conference is a gathering of people that desire to see the Gospel shared in their communities and around the world, and be witness to the Holy Spirit breathing new life into the lost. It’s a venue where church workers and laity, who have the desire to see their congregations grow, can come learn, network and worship together. It will create a momentum and a passion amongst attendees for evangelism in their communities and support evangelism efforts around the world.

Larry Callahan & Selected of God

Pastor Larry Callahan and the Detroit-based Selected of God Choir have been together for more than 12 years, bridging the gap of hopelessness, unemployment, and economic downturn with the love of God and song. With some 22 singers, the choir has traveled throughout the United States and Canada ministering the Gospel, the Good News of Christ. The notoriety gained from their exposure in the 2011 Chrysler 200 commercial with Eminem garnered them countless opportunities in television and film, and now the choir has released their third compact disc, The Evolution II, as the premier artists on Sing2Praise Records. The choir is also a three-time winner in Verizon’s How Sweet the Sound choir competition.


The Erin Bode Group

The Erin Bode Group creates music forged from the Americana of its members’ midwestern roots, infused with jazz grooves and made magic by Bode’s bell-like voice. Sophisticated arrangements and attention to phrasing, both vocal and instrumental, further distinguish the band’s fresh sound. Their most recent release, Photograph, was released in November 2010. In addition to Erin as the group’s singer/composer, the group also includes pianist Adam Maness, drummer Derrek Phillips, and bassist Syd Rodway, Bode’s husband. Erin, the youngest of four children born to a Lutheran pastor, has opened for high profile musicians such as Jamie Cullum, Michael Buble, and Chris Botto, and her talent and appeal has been lauded in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, JazzTimes, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and many other major publications.


Our Savior Worship Band

Our Savior Worship Band performs at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Nashville, Tennessee. Led by Matt Benge, the band is comprised of lay musicians, recording artists, touring players and songwriters. Working with Trinity/HOPE—a Tennessee-based program dedicated to feeding Haitians—significant proceeds from the band’s CD, “Hope Restored,” go toward feeding Haitian students in Christian schools. It was at Auburn University where Benge began leading worship music. As worship leader he has served at Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn, Alabama; St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montgomery; Word of Life Fellowship in Schertz, Texas; and Concordia Lutheran Church in San Antonio.

KIDS & YOUTH PROGRAMS


Childcare (7 and under) – daily service offered at the Renaissance Center, located close to all conference activities. FREE with paid adult registration.

Youth Program (8-13 years) – the theme for both the Youth and Young Adult programs is “Called-Loved-Sent”. Activities include Thursday at the Detroit Science Museum, Friday at the Ford Museum and Saturday at the Detroit Zoo. The youth will help with a “Sock Project”* that involves packing new socks with hygiene supplies that will be distributed amongst the homeless is the Detroit area. The program will culminate with a Saturday movie, pizza and popcorn night at the RenCen Theater. Cost is $99, which includes all travel and meals.

Young Adults Program (14-18 years) – the theme for Young Adult program is “Called-Loved-Sent”. Activities include Thursday at the Detroit Science Museum, Friday at the Ford Museum and on Saturday the young adults will be part of a VBS mission event serving over 200 local kids at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. The Young Adults will also help with the “Sock Project”*. The program will culminate with a Saturday movie, pizza and popcorn night at the RenCen Theater. Cost is $99, which includes all travel and meals.

* The Sock Project – we are collecting travel size deodorant, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and Kleenex, putting them in clean socks, adding a Bible verse and then giving them through the Family Of God Lutheran Mission.

The 2014 LHM Outreach Conference was formerly the International Convention of the International Lutheran Laymen’s League on Lutheran Hour Ministries’ schedule of biennial conventions/conferences. The Regional Outreach Conferences are held in odd-numbered years and will return to selected locations throughout North America in 2015.

Your conference registration fee includes a full access pass to all labs on Thursday, all main stage sessions on Friday and Saturday, all workshops on Friday and recordings of key sessions. However, your lodging, meals and special events are separate fees in addition to your conference registration fee.
Yes, child care will be available for children up to age 7 and is free with a paid adult registration. A junior high program will be offered for children ages 8 to 13 and a young adult program will be offered for kids ages 14 to 18. Both programs are $99 and include all materials, t-shirts, shuttle to events while in Detroit, lunch on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, service projects and more.
You can easily register another person for the conference at www.lhm.org/conference, but in order to get the Group Discount rate you must register all attendees at the same time.
You will not have to pre-register for the three workshop sessions being held on Friday afternoon. We will have several workshop presenters/topics to choose from during each time period and will have someone on site to direct you to other rooms if a specific workshop fills up. You may check into the Detroit Marriott beginning at 3 p.m. on the day of your arrival. You may pick up your conference registration packet at the registration booth in the Renaissance Conference Center at the following times: Wednesday, July 23: 3:00-5:00 p.m.; Thursday, July 24: 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Friday, July 25 beginning at 7:00 a.m.; and Saturday, July 26 beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Dress for the LHM Outreach Conference is business casual (business dress is encouraged for the Saturday evening event). You may want to bring a sweater/pullover in case some of the conference rooms are cooler than you would prefer. As the date of the conference approaches, we recommend checking weather.com (using the zip code 48243) for up-to-date weather forecasts.
